Update #10, Nov. 3rd, 2007
Hi all, this is Kal again. Jani and I are taking turns.
Unfortunately, it seems that Rowan has a bit of the stomach flu tonight and Jani had to stay with him. I could hear the sadness in his voice when he told me he could not visit her at 8:30. For some reason that is my favorite visit-I think that it is hers too. Everything is quiet, and she always seemed a little better in the evenings. I had to come back to MI for the week, but I left my heart there at her bedside. I am anxious to get back there this weekend so that I can take some of the burden from Jani-not that he lets me do much. I spoke with Jitka’s nurse, Omar just a few minutes ago, He said she was doing fine. She had some chest pain; but then again she has numerous fractured ribs, so that is to be expected. She seems to be floating in and out a bit. I can’t wait to see her again- and be seen back. Jitka remains on the ventilator, on fairly minimal support, but she just can’t take that final step and be free of it. I tell myself to be patient, but we have always held high expectations for eachother. There is no doubt that she was always tougher than me. She is going to make a miracle.
Our family sends our love to you all. Goodnight.

I am a stranger to you and your family. But I read about your sister’s accident in the newspaper and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. I do have a special connection because my son was hit by a vehicle this summer while riding his bike across the country with an organization called Bike and Build. My thoughts on drivers “sharing the road” with cyclists have changed forever. My son’s injuries were very minor compared to Jitka. I just wanted you to know there are people praying for your sister that have never met her. I can tell from this web site that she is loved by many and a very special part of this world we live in. I will continue to follow her progress and continue to pray fo r her.

To Jitka, Family, and Friends,
Jason and I were extremely saddened to hear of your accident. We read about your injuries and could only think one thing…you WILL recover…you are way too strong to let this beat you. In fact you are one of the strongest women I know. When I first met you I was trying to finish up my Ph.D. in Physiology and spent most of my time being stressed out. When I heard we were getting a new faculty member I could not be more pleased that it was a women. I knew you had to be someone special to break the “boys club”. You definitely proved me right as you fused seamlessly with our department, set up your lab, and within weeks wrote several grants that were funded. It takes a strong woman to do all that while 9 months pregnant and running after Ro.
I am not sure if I ever got to truly thank you for helping me through the last leg of my graduate career. Your door was always open to me and you taught me so much in the short time we shared a lab. You really helped prepare me for what to expect as a postdoc and you made sure I knew how to prepare for my interviews.
So Jitka, this is why I have no doubt in mind you will recover…YOU ARE STRONG. I just hope the rehab people can keep up with you!
Much Love and Support,
Emily
